Exactly one month from today (October 4th), it will be “Il Lombardia Under 23”. This year marks the 97th edition, a milestone that brings us one step closer to the centenary of one of the most cherished and prestigious races on the international calendar. However, it is the present moment that matters to Velo Club Oggiono and its collaborators, starting with president Daniele Fumagalli, who for years has been leading a group of passionate individuals dedicated to making the event increasingly exciting and spectacular.
Il Lombardia U23 is a key event for all aspiring professionals. A milestone that leaves no room for second-tier riders, but only for those with pedigree and talent. In thirty days, 176 athletes will depart from Oggiono to complete 170 kilometers, featuring climbs up Ghisallo, Villa Vergano, Colle Brianza, and Marconaga di Ello— the latter just 6 kilometers from the finish line on Viale Vittoria.
Despite the clash with the European Championships in France (a brilliant date choice by the UCI), Il Lombardia U23 will feature a top-tier field, including 36 teams, 26 of which are international. To be clear, teams that have confirmed their participation include Arkea, Decathlon, Red Bull Bora, UAE Team Emirates Gen Z, Groupama FDJ, Lotto, Lidl Trek, Israel, EF Education Aevolo, Soudal Quick Step, Visma Lease a Bike, and Astana.
