A one month from the race, Lombardia U23 officially publishes the list of teams at the start line. Despite the conflict with the UEC European Championships in Slovenia, scheduled for October 3rd, the international classic of Oggiono confirms a top-tier field: 29 foreign teams (14 World Tour development teams) and 7 Italian teams, representing a total of 18 nations. Numbers that show the race maintains technical standards fitting for a true world-class event.
This edition will also mark a historic milestone: for the first time, Lombardia U23 will have Carolina Maria Re Depaolini as race director, born in 1984 and originally from Nerviano (Milan). She is a figure whom the late Franco Binda had foresightedly identified and prepared for this prestigious and complex role, recognizing her qualities, balance, and competence.
Lombardia U23 will therefore inaugurate the new race director's tenure, who will be able to rely on top-level support: vice race directors Giuseppe Rivolta and Roberto Sardi, experienced professionals who are already key players in the organization of Velo Club Oggiono. Special thanks go to Giuseppe Rivolta, to whom President Daniele Fumagalli and the entire staff acknowledge the professional, precise, and constant work carried out over the past three years. A decisive contribution that has guaranteed continuity, organizational quality, and reliability to the race.
Lombardia U23, now in its 98th edition, remains a cornerstone of Italian cycling: a historic race, recognized and appreciated on the global stage. For two years, however, the overlap with the UEC calendar has created clear friction. A choice that fails to protect a high-profile event, exposing it instead to competition that shows little sensitivity toward the cultural and sporting value this race represents for both Italian and international cycling.
